Centre for a dementia-friendly society with a person-centred mindset - DEMSAM
DEMSAM is a research and collaboration centre at the University of Gothenburg, working together with Chalmers University of Technology, the City of Gothenburg, the Västra Götaland Region, the Gothenburg Region and wider society.
DEMSAM brings together research, practice and societal actors to develop a more dementia-friendly society. Through research and collaboration, DEMSAM builds bridges between academia, municipalities, regions, interest organisations and other parts of society. DEMSAM has a clear focus: improving the lives of people living with dementia and their relatives.
DEMSAM’s vision:
To contribute to a more dementia-friendly society by developing, testing and disseminating knowledge, methods and ways of working that empower and include people living with dementia, their relatives, and care and support providers.
A dementia-friendly society
- People living with dementia should be able to participate in society and continue to live their lives on their own terms.
- Societal environments should be safe, understandable and easy to navigate. Both physical and social environments need to be adapted to make everyday life easier.
- Organisations need to adapt their ways of working so that people living with dementia can participate, find their way and receive appropriate support.
- Collaboration is needed between people living with dementia, municipalities, regions, research, business, civil society and relatives.
- No single actor can achieve this alone.
